I made 50k in 10 months playing Microstakes Online

Because? I’m an idiot. I probably would have made more or the same in less time playing higher stakes, but I wanted the easy, quiet money while I focused on other things in life. There was also a unique set of circumstances that allowed for this.

As? A new, gated, high GDP market with an absurd amount of Rakeback and daily winning leaderboard bonuses with little competition because no one can play as many tables as me in the group.

What’s at stake? 12-20 tables, all from NL25 to NL100. Nearly perfect average stake of NL50.

The breakdown

Hand win rate

nl100 250k +17k 6.7bb/100

NL50 726k + 17k 4.7bb/100

nl25 523k +11k 8.4bb/100

Did I run well? Probably not. At NL50, I broke even at almost $200,000. My results at NL50 were horrible.

Has this ever been done before? I hope it’s not for your sake, is it Athene? I had a very unique set of circumstances that made it pretty easy to do so. I worked between 1000 and 1100 hours. The average full-time work hours over 10 months is about 1600 hours with travel, so I didn’t even work that hard, I worked a lot and worked on myself. If I worked a normal 40 hour work week at the same hourly wage, that would have been closer to 100k a year, but some of the rakeback is capped, so that wouldn’t be possible.

Can you do this? Absolutely not, unless you live in Ontario and want to throw your life away.

How much rakeback did I get? Depending on the day, 80-120%. The average is probably closer to 100% minus the EV neutral rake on the bad beat jackpot, which I didn’t account for in my calculations. Speaking of bad beat jackpots, I also got higher EV on those and probably won way over 50k. I just didn’t count them in this because that’s pure variance that I can easily exclude. I probably won between 10k-12k on jackpots, but I also paid rake on them.

On a normal day I would make around $280 (5-6 hours), get 60% cashback on 140, and make another $120-180 from the ggpoker daily leaderboard. There was no PVI due to regulations, but they still had the same high rakeback that ggpoker offers without the downside.

Hours played/schedule – 1k-1.1k hours, which would be around $45-50 per hour. 5k per month

Can improve – I just got the highest rakeback status, which would be an extra 6k if I did it again, but I’ll probably play at higher stakes now that I have it. That was the yearly goal. Maybe I’ll even learn how to play the game for real.

I’m fine? No, no, my stats were 19 VPIP, 17 PFR, 28 ATS, and 7% 3-Bet. A lot of people outplayed me, I’m a big table idiot. I played part time and short card tournaments before this and did almost no studying. High rakeback games created a unique scenario for poker to be played again in 2012.

The graphics – These don’t have a rake, but as I explained, I get 100% rb, so they are accurate with a potential error margin of about 5%.
